At any given moment, I am thinking about 10 different projects I'd like to try. A good chunk of them are home improvement themed. I've really struggled over the five years we've lived here to make our house more than the walls that comprise it. I want to be able to make it a home. Now I know that doesn't necessarily mean that I have to tweak every nook and cranny, but I haven't really done much of anything when it comes down to it. Don't believe me? I have photographic evidence.
Warning: I did not pick up or clean in prep for these photos. No judgement pleaseandthankyou.

Neutral walls, oak cabinets from my nightmares, no counter space to speak of, and yes, all of our bathroom fixtures are blue. Welcome to the 90's. Which makes sense, since the house was built in the 90's.
I think that the biggest hurdle when it comes to home improvement {at least for me} is cost. I've stalked the aisles of Home Depot and Lowes more times that I'd care to admit and I know the general cost of the goodies it would require to revamp an entire house. I've thought about maybe breaking up the projects, doing one every few months or so, but clearly I haven't gotten very far.
Another issue is I don't know how long we're going to be in this house. The town we live in now has a terrible, terrible school district and we've always known that we were going to move {and do an insane amount of purging. I CAN'T WAIT} when it came time for peanut to matriculate. But that's not for a few more years. My personal {and not shared by my husband} opinion is that we should bite the bullet and move sooner rather than later. If we know we're going to need to move anyway, I think we should do it now-ish, before Everlee gets too much older. And with that line of thought, do I really want to put a huge amount of effort into the house just to move away?
Where it is right now is basically the way it was when we moved in and the way that realtors recommend things to be. Neutral decor, nothing personal on the walls, etc. The thought of not having to undo all the work I had done to make the house my own sounds pretty darn good to me. So do I wait? Save up all my good ideas for the next house? Is there really even going to be a next house? ARE WE EVER GOING TO MOVE?!
I like the house itself, more or less. There are things I really love about it and things I really hate about it. But my biggest concern is the area being not-so-safe {the term "crack den" could be used in earnest to describe the apartment dwelling on the next block} and the lackluster schools. And just one town over, less than three or four miles, the schools are rated some of the best in the area. I curse our realtor daily...
So what do you think? Should I do it only to have to undo it? Should I leave it? Should I just accidentally set it on fire? Hmmm, that last one has potential...
